"A Educação de Infância: um país, dois paradigmas"   Mariana Estrela - Escola Básica do 1.º Ciclo com Pré-Escolar e Creche Eng. Luís Santos Costa. in Revista Diversidades, nº 57 Em Portugal, utilizam-se diferentes denominações no que diz respeito aos contextos formais de Educação de Infância (EI) [entre os quais destaco Mini-Creche, Creche, Educação Pré-Escolar, Jardim de Infância (JI), Infantário…] que refletem as diferentes conceções e fases de evolução pelas quais a EI, em Portugal, passou¹. Importa refletirmos criticamente sobre essas fases e sobre o impacto das políticas educativas decretadas para a EI. De forma sucinta, podemos evidenciar que: - As fases marcantes de evolução da EI remetem para quatro grandes períodos: a Monarquia, entre 1834 e 1909, em que a taxa de analfabetismo era muito elevada, sendo então valorizada a instrução como meio para a evolução social.
